Common Conditions Treated with Acupuncture, IMS & Dry Needling

Not all muscle or nerve pain appears right away, sometimes it develops gradually due to tension, posture, or repetitive strain.

Some of the most common conditions we treat with these techniques include:

Muscle Tightness & Spasms

Painful knots or stiffness caused by muscle overuse, stress, or poor posture.

Neck & Shoulder Pain

Chronic tension and trigger points leading to reduced mobility and discomfort.

Lower Back Pain

Deep muscle strain, nerve irritation, or disc-related tension relieved by precise needling.

Headaches & Migraines

Tension-type headaches and migraines triggered by muscle tightness or nerve pressure.

Sports & Overuse Injuries

Muscle strain, fatigue, or repetitive stress injuries from athletic or occupational activities.

Nerve-Related Pain

Tingling, numbness, or shooting pain caused by muscle compression or nerve irritation.

UNDERSTANDING ACUPUNCTURE, IMS & DRY NEEDLING THERAPY

Muscle pain, stiffness, and restricted movement often come from trigger points, tight knots deep within the muscles that don’t relax on their own. These small, tense spots can irritate nearby nerves, limit mobility, and cause pain that radiates to other areas of the body.

At

, we use Acupuncture, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), and Dry Needling to release these trigger points, restore normal muscle tone, and improve overall function. Each fine, sterile needle targets deep layers of muscle and connective tissue to relieve pain naturally and promote long-term healing.

These techniques can help with:

  • Reduced muscle tightness and spasms
  • Improved blood circulation and tissue healing
  • Relief from headaches, neck, and back pain
  • Better movement and posture
  • Decreased nerve-related pain and tension

When used as part of a personalized physiotherapy plan, these treatments not only relieve pain but also help prevent it from returning, so you can move freely and feel your best again.

The Importance of Acupuncture, IMS & Dry Needling

Muscle pain and tightness don’t always respond to stretching or medication alone. These advanced needling techniques offer targeted relief by addressing the root cause of discomfort deep within the muscle and nerve tissue.

Good to know

Common questions

A few things people often ask before their first visit.

What is the difference between acupuncture, dry needling and IMS?

All three use fine, sterile needles, but the approach differs. Acupuncture is rooted in traditional points and meridians. Dry needling and Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) target tight muscle bands and trigger points to ease tension and improve movement. At your assessment, your physiotherapist recommends the approach best suited to your condition.

Who performs acupuncture and dry needling at Trust Care?

Our acupuncture, IMS and dry needling are provided by Registered Physiotherapists with additional training in these techniques, as part of a wider physiotherapy plan rather than as a stand-alone treatment.

Does dry needling or acupuncture hurt, and is it safe?

Most people feel only a small prick as the needle is inserted, and sometimes a brief muscle twitch with dry needling. We use single-use sterile needles and follow clinical safety standards. Your physiotherapist explains each step and checks your comfort throughout.

What conditions can acupuncture and dry needling help with?

These techniques are commonly used to help with muscle tension and tightness, neck and back pain, headaches, sports injuries, and certain types of chronic or nerve-related pain. They are most effective as part of an overall physiotherapy plan tailored to you.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance, and do you direct bill?

When provided as part of physiotherapy, these techniques are often covered under physiotherapy benefits. We direct bill to more than 40 insurers where your plan allows. We are happy to check your coverage before you start.

Do I need a referral, and where are you located?

In most cases you can book without a physician referral. We are located at 14415 Miller Blvd NW in North Edmonton, with parking on site.
