Good to know

Common questions

A few things people often ask before their first visit.

What is vestibular rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation is a focused form of physiotherapy that uses targeted exercises and techniques to help your balance system adapt. It is used to manage dizziness, vertigo and unsteadiness caused by inner-ear and balance-related conditions.

What conditions can vestibular physiotherapy help with?

It is commonly used for BPPV (positional vertigo), general dizziness and imbalance, vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis recovery, and balance problems after a concussion. Your physiotherapist assesses your symptoms and builds a plan suited to your condition.

What is BPPV, and can you treat it?

BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) is a common cause of brief spinning sensations triggered by head movements. We assess for BPPV and, where appropriate, use canalith repositioning techniques such as the Epley manoeuvre as part of your care.

How many sessions will I need, and what should I expect?

It varies by condition. Your first visit is a thorough assessment, after which your physiotherapist explains the plan and a likely timeframe. Many people are given simple exercises to practise at home between visits to support their progress.

Do I need a referral, and is it covered by insurance?

In most cases you can book without a physician referral. Vestibular rehabilitation is provided as physiotherapy, so it is often covered under physiotherapy benefits. We direct bill to more than 40 insurers where your plan allows and can check your coverage first.
