Insurance and coverage, in one place

Which route pays for your treatment depends on how you were injured, not on which treatment you need. At Trust Care there are three routes, and we confirm which one applies before you are treated.

Injured at work

A workplace injury goes through WCB Alberta, not your extended health plan. Report the injury to your employer and to WCB, then book an assessment once you are medically cleared to start rehabilitation. Trust Care is an approved WCB Alberta provider and bills WCB directly for accepted claims. We report your progress to WCB and can build a graded return-to-work plan around your job tasks.

Injured in a motor vehicle accident

A collision goes through Section B accident benefits on the vehicle’s insurance policy. This applies regardless of who was at fault. Alberta’s Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols allow pre-approved physiotherapy for eligible injuries when treatment starts within the protocol timeframe, which is why booking early matters. We bill the auto insurer directly.

Everything else

Injuries that are not work or accident related go through your extended health plan, if you have one. Trust Care direct bills more than 40 providers. Bring your policy and certificate number and we will check your coverage before treatment.

If you have no coverage

You can book and pay privately. Ask at reception for current fees when you book, and your physiotherapist will build a plan that makes sensible use of the number of visits you want to commit to, with more of the work handed to you as a home programme.

Common questions about coverage

The most frequent confusion is people using their extended health benefits for an injury that WCB or Section B would have covered in full, and using up their annual limit unnecessarily. If your injury happened at work or in a vehicle, say so when you book and we will route it correctly.

Common questions

A few things people often ask before their first visit.

Is physiotherapy covered by WCB in Alberta?

Yes. For an accepted WCB Alberta claim, approved physiotherapy is covered in full and Trust Care bills WCB directly, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for covered treatment.

Who pays for physiotherapy after a car accident in Alberta?

Treatment after a collision is covered by Section B accident benefits on the vehicle's insurance policy, regardless of who was at fault, not by your extended health plan.

Can I use my extended health plan for a work injury?

You should not need to. A workplace injury goes through WCB Alberta, which covers approved treatment in full. Using extended health benefits instead uses up your annual limit unnecessarily.
